Description:
Tadjik Embroidery,
Central Asia, early 20th century, 1' 9" x 1'
6"
| Central Asian embroidery is renowned
for its realistic depiction of flowering
plants and vines. Often many groups of
embroidery are simply labelled Uzbek.
This can be misleading as other groups
sometimes embroidered in a style akin to
the prevalent Uzbek groups. This is a
Tadjik embroidery, done on the purple
silk that is often associated with the
Shahkhrysabs groups. The stitching is
very fine, the plant life seen here
beautifully articulated, delicately drawn
and quite nice. All the colours are
natural dyes and the condition is
excellent. |
