What is a Resht Textile

Resht textiles are basically chain stitch embroidery on wool. The wool is a simple balanced plain weave. This is the simplest weave known and color change is accomplished by stitching together pieces of different colored wool.

See Guide to Resht Textiles

Detail - Resht Panel 19th C.

Rasht textles are simple in technique but can be extraordinary in execution. The extravagent use of silk can make these quiet colorful in a color range not always associated with natural dyes. This can be misleading because the affect of dyes on silk is very different than on wool. Consequently while many are newer this is an old technique and some examples are older.
