The Goharshad mosque in Mashad was built through the largess of Goharshad, wife of Shahrokh (1405 - 1447) the Timurid Shah. Shahrokh the son of Timur the founder of the Timurid dynasty was one of the greatest benefactors of art and culture that the world has ever known. The art of the mosque has deeply influenced the Rugs and Carpts of Mashad.
