For a related textile from the Eliza M. and Sarah L. Niblack Collection
in the Indianapolis Museum of Art, see: Imami Paydar, Niloo and
Grammet, Ivo, (eds.), The Fabric of Moroccan Life, Indianapolis, 2001,
p. 63, Inv. No. 2001.377. Early Chechaouen embroideries display the
direct influence of 15th century Hispano-Moresque designs, a tradition
probably introduced by Andalusian refugees fleeing Spain in the 16th
century. Complete embroideries of this type are rare and include one
example in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, see: Lubell,
Cecil, Textile Collections of the World, Volume I, New York / London,
