Here
in the US so many of the new Iranian carpets are not very
exciting. So I was amazed when I got to Iran and found
that the best of Iranian carpets are the equal of the
best ever made. Among the best of the best are the
carpets of F. Haghighi. I had a chance to visit with
Master Faizullah Haghighi and see their carpets.
Just how good are Haghighi carpets? I have looked at a
number of rugs and carpets over the years and I see the
Haghighi carpets as the equal of the best ever made.
The famous Shiraz Vakil Mosque Isfahan

Here we see the famous Shiraz Vakil
Mosque rug by Haghighi. The rug is 1200 knots in width
and 800 rows in length for a total of 960,000 knots in
the entire rug. The photo-realistic design is
accomplished with about 70 colors. The construction uses
an asymmetric open right knot with wool pile on silk warp
and wefts.
