Seyed Hossein Mar'ashi resigned his seat in the Majlis (The Islamic Consultative Assembly) to accept the position of Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as chairman of the newly constituted Organization of Cultural Heritage and Tourism. This appointment is important to the future of the Islamic Republic because it brings together two organizations the Tourism Organization and the Cultural Heritage Organization and makes them one under an energetic new leader.

Mar'ashi has already cheated death in the June 1997 crash of then Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani's helicopter. Mar'ashi as well as Rafsanjani's son Mohsen Hashemi survived the crash after an engine failure. Mar'ashi and President Rafsanjani had been touring the new leaching operations at Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex in Kerman province. Sarcheshmeh is one of the world's largest copper mines and a leader in leaching technology for chalcopyrite-bearing copper ores. President Rafsanjani was in a separate helicopter.

Mar'ashi has represented his home district of Kerman ably in the Majlis gaining a reputation for expertise in matters of Planing and Budget. He was born in Rafsanjan and is a descendent of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). In Il-Khanid times the Marashi Sayids were powerful princes.

Marashi is a leader in the Construction Party and is close to President Khatami who is seen as a moderate. Marashi has close ties with the conservatives since his sister Effat is the wife of Conservative Former President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani one of the most powerful men in Iran,

Only 45 years old the Rafsanjani born Mar'ashi is respected as one of the leaders taking Iran into the future.
