Notes on Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel

Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel was elected to a one year term as Speaker of the Seventh Majles on June 6, 2004

Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel is a member of the Majlis (The Islamic Consultative Assembly) from Tehran. Haddad-Adelis a professor of literature and philosophy at Tehran University and author of numerous books and text books. Haddad-Adelis is head of the state sponsored Academy of Persian Language and Literature.

Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel was born in Tehran Iran in 1945. He is close to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Most sources suggest a marriage tie but they vary widely. The Western press usually says that the son of Haddad-Adel is married to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei daughter. Other sources suggest it is Haddad-Adel's daughter and Khamenei's son or that Haddad-Adel himself is married to Khamenei's younger daughter. Whatever the truth is the men are allies.

Haddad-Adel belongs to a political party called Coalition of Builders of Islamic Iran and is politically allied with Former President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
