Mohsen Rezai is often mentioned as a possible candidate for the 2005 Iranian presidential election. He was a candidate for the Presidency in 2001 but withdrew before the election. There is speculation that Rezai is more anti-US than the bulk of the conservatives and far more so then Pragmatists such as Former President Rafsanjani. I think most of that talk is based on his actions 8 years ago as IRGC head and may not be valid today. It completely overlooks the IRGC help to the US in Afghanistan.

Let us take a look at the notorious Persian Gulf quote:

Americans tend to hear the threat and ignore the promise. It is actually a good promise as long as we do not attack. This is not very different from the Ayatollah Khamenei's Hamadan Doctrine
