I recently attended a seminar on
cleaning Oriental rugs hosted by Kim Esber. Esber's is a full service
Oriental carpet store featuring a good mix of new older and antique
carpets. Here we see Kim an some of the participants in the rug washing
facility.

Kim Esber (left in boots) explained to us about the
various cleaners used in the process including some specialty ones such
as enzymes for pet stains.

Esber's has a large area for washing rugs that Kim's
father built. It allows them to wash room size carpets indoors all year
round and dry them.

Kim had chosen a carpet stained with pet urine as the
sample rug. After the cleaning process the stain and smell was gone.

Esber's has a large hydraulic press which does a nice
job.

The final step was getting the carpet hung in the dying
room.

Kim explained to all of us about maintaining the proper
humidity to dry the rugs.

A special treat was Denise from Woven Legends. She gave
us a guided tour of the Woven Legends rugs.

All in all it was an enjoyable and
educational experience.
