Notes on Ayatollah Kazem Shariatmadari

From: http://shw.fotopages.com/1573077.html

Ayatollah Kazem Shariatmadari was one of the leading Shia clerics in Iran. He was one who recognized Ayatollah Khomeini as a Grand Ayatollah in 1963. Kazem Shariatmadari was a key part of the Iranian revolution. He led one of the political factions and founded the Islamic People's Republican Party. He also headed the Center for Islamic Study and Publications

Then a plot was uncovered to murder Ayatollah Khomeini. Sadegh Ghotbzadeh leader of the conspiracy admitted to having used Shariatmadari's son-in-law as his contact with the Ayatollah in an assassination plot against the Imam Ayatollah Khomeini. Shariatmadari admitted knowing of the plot but denied active involvement. Shariatmadari never made clear how he could know of an assassination plot against the Imam Ayatollah Khomeini and not say anything. Because of his position as a mujtahid he was not executed but his party disbanded, his Center for Islamic Study and Publications closed and he remained under house arrest until his death in 1985.

Ayatollah Kazem Shariatmadari's son Hossein Shariatmadari who lives in Germany is constantly trying to rehabilitate the father's reputation. He exaggerates his father's importance and neglects to mention his family's involvement in murder plots.
