JBOC Note:
Note in the center of the design the corroded
black wool. Jim sees ths as a inferior dye and in
many ways it is, especially after 100 and some
years. In defense of the weaver of the rug and
the dyer of the wool this is an honest
traditional dye. They get a true black from oak
galls and iron. There were no other good black
available in Caucasus in the 18th and 19th
century. The closest that they could get was
over-dyed indigo until synthethic black dye
became available. This is of couse a problem now
