Antique Kazvin Rugs and Carpets
Kazvin, Gazvin, Qazvin, Qazvines rugs are not from the city of Qazvin
or that surrounding areas. Earlyhe 20th century OCM or perhaps even
under its earlier name Baker Brothers the English company started
commercial rug production in the city of Hamadan. The rugs are very
different from Hamadan rugs which are made with a single shot of weft
between each row of Turkish knots while the Qazvin use two shots of
weft inbetween rows of Persian knots.
The old Kazvin rugs were a quality rug and were similar to a Manchester
Kashan rugs. The wool is fine as one sees in a Manchester
Kashan and while the rug is not fine compared to newer rugs the rugs
are sturdy and well made with plenty of wool pile to standup well to
the rigors of western home use. |
